Manumission Negro Anthony Barber from Dolly & Abraham Barber

Know all men by these presents, that we Dolly Barber and Abraham Barber of Jones’s Hundred Kent County and State of Delaware, for divers good causes and considerations as thereunto moving, Have Emancipated Liberated and by these presents, Do Emancipate Liberate and set free a certain negro slave named Anthony Barber now aged about Twenty four years, WE do forever release and discharge the said Anthony Barber from the claim and title forever of ourselves, or either of us, or either of our heirs executors and administrators, and every of them, so that from time to time and at all times forever hereafter, the said Anthony Barber shall and may enjoy all the rights benefits and priviledges of a free negro or Mulatto, according to the laws and customs of the State of Delaware, free and discharged from the claim of all and every person and persons from by or under us or either of us, or of either of our heirs Executors and Administrators, In Witness whereof we the said Dolly Barber and Abraham Barber have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this Thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. State of Delaware Kent County Ss} Be it remembered that on the thirty first day of January in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine, personally appeared Dolley Barber and Abraham Barber parties to the above Instrument of writing, before me John Lowber one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the County of Kent aforesaid, and then and there did acknowledge the same as their act and Deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and that the said Anthony Barber should from time to time and all times hereafter enjoy all the rights benifits and privelidges of a free negro or Mulatto according to the laws and customs of this State. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Dover the thirty first day of January A.D. 1809. John Lowber {seal}
