To all to whom these presents may come know ye that I Rebeckah George of Christiana Hundred NewCastle County and State of Delaware, do hereby manumit, enfranchise, set free and at full liberty, a certain colour’d man by me held as a slave, Adam Bordley now aged about twenty four years. To be free and at full liberty from me my heirs executors and administrators, and any and all person or persons claiming or to claim his service, by through or under me them or any of them, from the day of the date hereof henceforth. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty eight. Rebecca George {seal}

State of Delaware NewCastle County Be it remembered that on the day of the date hereof Before me Thomas McDowell one of the Justices of, of the Peace in and for NewCastle County, personally appeared Miss Rebeckah George, and acknowledged the above and foregoing manumission to be her act & deed for the use and purposes therein mentioned. In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this eighth day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight  hundred & twenty eight.
