Manumission Negro Affa & others from Matthew Traverse
Kent County State of Delaware Ss To all persons to whom these shall come Know ye that Matthew Travers of the County and state afsd. For Diverse good causes and considerations me thereunto moveing do Emancipate and set free from and after this day the followings Negroes Viz a Negro Woman named Affa and three Girls one named amy one named Sally and the other named Leah – renouncing all my right title and claim whatsoever to the aforesaid Negroes after the date hereof and I do further agree for my self my heirs Execs admns the freedom of the afsd. Negroes to warrant and defend from all persons claiming or hereafter to claim from by or under me or them or any of them given under my hands and seal this seventeenth day of Augt. Kent County to witt The 3rd day of March 1810} Then Matthew traverse personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County afsd. and acknowledged the above Instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the negroes therein named to be free and at full liberty from the above date _ _ _ _
