Know all men by these presents that I Leonard Vandegrift of St Georges Hundred in the County of NewCastle and state of Delaware do hereby manumit liberate and Set free and by these Presents manumatted liberated and set free from slavery my Negro Girl named Hannah heretofore a slave and my Property on the conditions following that is to say that she the said Hannah shall well and faithfully serve William Young of Brandywine Hundred in the County and State afsd Paper Maker his Heirs and Assigns for and during and to the full end and term of Eleven Years from the Twelfth day of the present month of February, the same to be fully complete and ended after the expiration of which Term I declare the said Negro Girl Hannah to be free, and I the said Leonard Vandegrift for myself and my Heirs do hereby Covenant grant and agree, that the freedom of the said Hannah against myself and my Heirs and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever claiming her Services, after the Twelfth day of February which will be in the year one thousand eight hundred & Eighteen shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. NewCastle County ss Be it remembered that on this Twenty fourth day of February in the year of Lord One thousand eight hundred and seven, before me Evan Thomas one of the Justices of the Peace in and for Said County personally came and appeared Leonard Vandegrift within named who acknowledged the within Instrument of manumission to be his Act and Deed desiring that the same might be taken and recorded as such.
