Apprentice Indentureship John Henry McKnitt to Henry Harrington 1831

This Indenture made this nineteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one – Witnesses that Jeremiah McKnitt free negro of Kent County and State of Delaware hath put and bound and by these presents doth put and bind his son John Henry McKnitt now of the age of four years and nine months as nearly as can be ascertained as a  Servant to Henry Harrington his executors administrators and assigns for and during and until the full end and term of Sixteen years and three months from the day of the date Hereof: – the Said John Henry McKnitt to Serve the Said Henry Harrington his executors administrators and assigns as a Servant for the term aforesaid or until he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years if that Shall happen Sooner than, the expiration of the term aforesaid and no longer: – And the Said Henry Harrington for himself his executors administrators and assigns doth hereby contract covenant and agree to teach or cause to the Said John Henry McKnitt to be taught the art trade or mystery of Farming to the best of his Skill Knowledge and ability and to give to the Said John Henry McKnitts father twenty five Dollars to well Support and clothe the Said John Henry McKnitt during the term of his Servitude and at the regular expiration of the Said term to furnish the Said John Henry McKnitt with two Suits of clothes Suitable, to hs Condition –

Kent County SS This Indenture was executed in the presence and with the approbation of the subscriber a justice of the peace of Kent county aforesaid this nineteenth day of April 1831. Sam’l Grace
