Will Ann Gordon 1857

I Ann Gordon of the city of Philadelphia State of Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory, do make, and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First, I commit and commend my spirit into the hands of my creator, Looking for and hoping unto the resurrection of the Just, And I devise that my body be plainly and orderly intered  and all my just debts be paid. Second, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Grand children Mary Adel and Samuel Gorden all my real Estate Situated No 6 Burds Court (between 10th & 11th Locust & Spruce Sts) to have and hold and to their heirs forever further should either of these Legatees die before Marring then the Said property should be solely owned by the other. Third, I hereby will that Joseph L. Gordon, my beloved Son, take charge of his Father my beloved husband, either home with him or put him where he will be best satisfied, and that so much of the Rent of the said property be used for his support during his natural life and the remainder for paying the Taxes Keeping the house in repair and the surplus from time to time to be given to the Legatees, for their use. It is my desire that should either Mary Adel or Samuel Gorden marry that neither her husband and his wife shall have any clame or Control of said property bequeathed to them, but it shall be reserved for their children, In case of the decease of my Grand children it is my will that my property go to my beloved son Joseph L. Gorden his heirs and Assigns, or my next nearest relative. Fourth, I give and bequeath unto my beloved niece Mary Ann Purnell my clothes with the exception of what will do for Mary Adel. Fifth, I give and bequeath to Samuell Garden one Bed and Pillows, Sixth, I give and bequeath to Mary Adel Gordon such of my china as she wants and my high Post Bed Stead Pillows and Sheets &c. Seventh I devise the rest of my Furniture as my Son may deem proper and I do nominate and appoint Joseph L. Garden and Stephen Purnell of the city of Phila as Executors of this my last Will and Testament and do request them to accept and faithfully perform the trust reposed in them according to my desire. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty fourth day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Fifty Seven. Ann Gorden her mark {seal}

Signed, Sealed, published and declared the above named Ann Gorden to be her last will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request and in her presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereunto. Addenda to Clause 2nd I desire Joseph L. Gorden (my son) to act as Guardian for his children. Ann Gorden her mark

City and County of Philadelphia, SS. Registers’ Office, June 23. 1857. Then personally appeared Jas. H. Wilson and Stephen Purnell & Jas Titus the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will of Ann Gorden deceased, and in their Solemn oaths did say that they were present and did see and hear Ann Gorden deceased the Testatrix therein named Signed Seal publish and declare the same as and for her last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof she was of sound disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief. City and County of Philadelphia, SS, Register’s Office, June 25, 1857. We do Swear that as the Executors of the foregoing last Will and Testament of Ann Gordon deceased, we will well and truly administer the Goods and chattels rights and credits of said deceased agreeably to law; and that I will comply with the provisions of the law relative to Collateral Inheritance.
