Manumission Negroes Mariah and Sucke from Rebecca Jenkins 1776

Know all Men by these presents that I Rebeccah Jenkins Widow of Kent County on Delaware do hereby manumit & set absolutely free my negro Woman named Mariah aged about twenty two Years and her Child called Sucke aged about six years so that henceforth they shall be deemed adjudged & taken as & for free People that is to say, Woman Mariah from this Day & Girl Sucke to remain as an Apprentice to me & my Heirs till she arrives to eighteen years of Age, then to be at their own Disposal & at Liberty to act for themselves (that is Mariah this Day & Sucke when of lawfull age) as free Women without the Lett Hindrance or Molestation of Me or any other Person or Persons whatsoever forever claiming or to claim by from or under Me: also, promising for myself my Heirs Exrs Admrs and every of us to do our best Endeavors to teach or cause to be taught the afsd negro Girl Sucke to read the Bible – Hereby binding myself my Heirs Exers Admrs & every of us in the penal Sum of one hundred pounds lawfull Money of this Governmt to each the afsd Negroes to do or execute any other or further Act or Deed that they or either of them may reasonably require or need in Order to ^further confirm their just Liberty granted as afsd. In Witness whereunto I have to this set my hand and affixed my Seal this 2d Day of ye 7th month in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & Seventy six 1776 Rebecca Jenkins her mark {seal}
