To all People To whom these Presents Shall Com WE Zachariah Goforth of Kent County on Delaware yeoman and Sarah his wife Send Greeting. Whereas We the Said Zachariah Goforth and Sarah his wife having on our Possession and Under our care one Negro man Named Casar Which Said Negro according to the Custom of this Land is Deemed a Slave and thereby held in Slavery and Bondage, and we the Said Zachariah Goforth and Sarah his wife Being Convinced by the Inshining Light of Gods Eternal Spirit that the above said Custom and Practice of Enslaving or Holding of Negroes in Slavery and Bondage During Life is an unchristian Custom and Practice Contrary to a Gosple Dispensation & Opposite to the Spirit of the New Covenant which Teacheth us and all that are Led thereby to take off every yoke and Let the Oppressed go free and to do unto all man as we would they Should do unto us Now Know ye that we the said Zachariah Goforth and Sarah his wife Being of a good and Perfect Mind and without fraud or Deceit for Divers Good Causes and Consideration us hereunto Moving and in Obedience to the most High God Have given granted and Confirmed and By these Presents Do absolutely Give great and Confirm unto the above said Negro man Named Casar his Liberty and freedom from the above said Slavery and Bondage To have and to hold the said Liberty and freedom from the said Slavery and Bondage unto him the Said Casar and to the Only Proper use and behoof of him the Said Casar from the day of the date hereof forever and that freely Peaceably and Quietly without any manner of Reclaim Challenge or Condition of us the Said Zachariah Goforth and Sarah his wife Our Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns of any other Person or Persons by us for us, or in our names or in the name or names of us or any of us at any Time or Times Hereafter May ask Claim Challenge or Demand any Right Title or Interest or in or to the Labour or Service of the Said Casar or any thing arising therefrom. But from all action of right Title Claim Interest use Possession and Demand thereof or and Part thereof we and any of us to be Utterly Excluded and for ever Debarred by these Presents In Testimony whereof we the Said Zachariah Goforth and Sarah his wife have Set our Hands and Seals to these Presents the Twenty ninth Day of the Eighth month Anno Domini One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six. 1767.
