Know all men by these presents that I Robert O. Pennewill of Dover, Dover Hundred, Kent County and State of Delaware, from motives of humanity and benevolence, have manumitted and do hereby manumit and set free my negro man Jacob Alston aged about twenty seven years formerly the property of John Voshell; and I do hereby give, grant and release unto the said Jacob all my right, title and claim of in and to his person, labour and service and of in and to the estate which he may hereafter obtain. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five. Robt. O. Pennewill {seal}
