Manumission John Wallace for Black Man Charles 1835

Know all men by these presents That I John Wallace of the County of Kent and State of Delaware, from motives of benevolence and humanity have manumitted and do hereby manumit and set free from slavery my negro man charles aged about thirty three years; and I do hereby give, grant and release unto the said Charles all my right title and claim of, in and to his person, labour and service; and of in and to the estate and property which he may hereafter acquire or obtain. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five. John Wallace {seal}

Kent County State of Delaware Be it remembered that on the 9th day of May 1835 personally appeared before me on of the Justices of the Peace for Said County John Wallace and acknowledged the above manumission to be his act, and deed and desired it might be recorded as such. Daniel Godwin
