I James C. Wallace of Kent County and State of Delaware being the owner of a certain negro man named Alexander Hazzard of the age of twenty five years the 19th day of April last, do hereby manumit and set free and at perfect liberty the said Alexander from me and my heirs – leaving him to transact any business for himself not holding myself accountable for his dealings or acts in any way – Witness my hand & Seal this 29th day of May A.D. 1848 James C.
