This Indenture made this thirtyeth day of October in the year o our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty Between James Barratt Senior and Mary his wife James Barratt Junior and Fannie his wife and William Carpenter and Hester his wife all of Kent County and State of Delaware of the one part, and Thomas G. Marvel of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Whereas Isaac Gibbs, a free negro of said County was in his lifetime and at the time of his death seized in his demesne as of fee of in and to a certain lot or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid adjoining lands of David Marvel Senior, William Slaughter and other lands and said to contain three acres of land be the same more or less and being so seized died intestate leaving to survive him a widow and a number of children and grandchildren the number of which is not now exactly known, but it is known that the said James Barrett holds as assign of William Gibbs one share thereof and that the said James Barrett and Mary his wife in right of the said Mary holds one other share thereof, That the said James Barrett Junior holds in right of his deceased mother one share thereof, and that the said William Carpenter and Hester his wife, in right of the said Hester holds one other share thereof, and whereas the said James Barrett Senr. and Mary his wife, James Barrett Junior and Fannie his wife and William Carpenter and Hester his wife have contracted with the said Thomas G. Marvel for the sale of their respective shares and interest in the said lands held by the said Isaac Gibbs at the time of his death and are now about to convey the same, Therefore –
This Indenture Witnesseth, That the said James Barratt and Mary his wife James Barratt Junior and Fannie his wife and William Carpenter and Hester his wife have for and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred and Thirty Dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said Thomas G. Marvel the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, Have granted, bargained and sold, aliened, aliened, enfeoffed, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents Do and each of them Doth give, grant, bargain and sell, alien, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto the said Thomas G. Marvel his heirs and assigns All their undivided right, title, interest and estate of in and to all that lot piece or parcel of land and premises of which the said Isaac Gibbs died seized and possessed as aforesaid, situate as aforesaid, Together with all and singular, the houses, buildings, fences, woods, ways, waters, water-courses, with the reversions and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof And also all the estate right title interest property claim and demand whatsoever both in law or in equity or otherwise of, in, to, or out of the same To Have and To Hold all and singular the aforesaid lands and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Thomas G. Marvel his heirs and assigns forever. To and For the only proper use and behoof of the said Thomas G. Marvel his heirs and assigns forever.

The State of Delaware Kent County Ss: Be it remembered that on this thirtyeth day of October A.D. 1860 personally came before me Henry Pratt, Notary Public for said State James Barratt Senr. and Mary his wife James Barrett Junr. and Fannie his wife parties to this Indenture known to me personally to be satch and severally acknowledged this Indenture to be their Deed: and the said Mary Barratt and Fannie Barratt being at the same time privately examined by me apart from their Husbands acknowledged that they executed the said Indenture willingly, without compulsion or threats or fear of their husbands’ displeasure. Given under my hand and seal of office the day and year aforesaid. Henry Pratt N.P.
