Know all men by these presents that I William Quillen of the county of Kent and State of Delaware from motives of benevolence and humanity have Manumitted and hereby do manumit and Set free from Slavery my Negro boy Jack aged about Eleven years and Six months on conditions however that he doth well and truly Serve me my heirs executors or assigns until he Shall attain to the age of twenty eight years and I do hereby give grant and release unto the Said Jack all my right title and claim of in and to his person labour and Service and of in and to the Estate and property which he may hereafter acquire or obtain excepting only his Service in manner and during the term of time above mentioned which term of time will expire on the third day of June one thousand eight hundred and fifty after the expiration of which term of time Shall expire the Said Jack Shall be free and at his liberty and enjoy all the privaleges of other free negroes – as witness my hand and Seal this third day January one thousand eight hundred and thirty four 1834. Kent County SS. Personally appeared Robert Quillen one of the Subscribing witness to the foregoing manumission and on his Solemn Oath Says that William Quillen did acknowledge the foregoing manumission to be his voluntary act and Deed and that he did make his mark to the Same and and acknowledged the Seal to the Same Taken & acknowledged before me this 20th January 1834 Robert Quillen. Thomas Stevenson J. P.
