Know all men by these presents That whereas Benjamin Wallace Farmer late of Kent County and State of Delaware did in his lifetime virbally liberate Set free and permitt to go at large his negro woman Elizabeth and her Daughter Mariah the Said Elizabeth Since having intermarried with James Toomey free Negro of the town of Smyrna in the County & State aforesaid by whome She the Said Elizabeth hath two infant Children Namely John Toomey and Sarah Ann Toomey And whereas the Said Elizabeth together with her aforesaid three Children namely Mariah John & Sarah Ann hath been taken into the appraisement of the Estate of the aforesaid Benjamin Wallace Decd. at a nominal value, Know ye that I James C Wallace one of the heirs and Administrator of the aforesaid Benjamin Wallace for and in Consideration of the Sum of Four Dollars Cash in hand to me paid by the aforesaid James Toomey free negro do by these presents against myself my heirs executors administrators or assigns and against all and Singular the heirs and legal representatives of the aforesaid Benjamin Wallace Manumit and forever Set free the aforesaid Elizabeth together with her three above Described Children she the Said Elizabeth being aged about Thirty four years As Witness my hand & Seal this 24th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and thirty one A.D. 1831. Kent County Sst. Personally appeared before me J. Biddle one of the Justices of the Peace in & for Said county James C Wallace the same whose name is signed to the above Manumission and acknowledged the Same to be his act and Deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof in due form of law.
