Know all men by these presents that I John Covington of Kent County in the State of Delaware for divers good causes and consideration me thereunto moveing do Manumit enfranchise and Set free a certain Negro girl named Ann to be free and at her perfect liberty at the expiration thirteen years from the date hereof which will be in the Eighteenth day of April in the year one thousand Eight hundred and forty two (1842) agreeable to a Bill of Sale executed by me this day to James Kimmey And I the aforesaid John Covington do warrant & defend the liberty & freedom of the above named Negro Ann from the lawful claim or claims of me my heirs executors or administrators and every other person or persons claiming or to claim by from or under me. State of Delaware Kent County Sst. Personally came before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in & for Said County John Covington the Same whose name is signed to the above Manumission and acknowledged the Same to be his act & Deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof in due form of Law – In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal this 18th of April 1829.
