Will Lemuel A Hall Sr 1851
I Lemuel A Hall Senr of Baltimore Hundred, Sussex County, State of Delaware Being now Sound in mind but of feble helth and calling to mind the Uncertainty of this human life do make & Establish this my Last Will & Testament this Ninth day of July in the year commonly called in this year of of Lord one thousand Eight hundred & fifty one 1851 as Follows first commanding my Soul to God & my Body to the earth from fence it came to be plainly but decently buried.
Item firs I Lend to my dear Wife Sarah Hall all that part of the Land that I now live on as now to be described All the land including all the houses and improvements on it that lays to the Eastward of the Road that leads now from the Head of the Sound to Cedar neck all to the Northward of the fence that is just over the Turkey Brance So as to Include the Said land that was original in this Hous tract or tracts during her natural Life also I give to her my Blackman Named George & my Blackwoman named Amelia one Rocking Chair first Chois one large Bibel one Looking Glass one Beaureau one Bed & furniture first Chois for ever
2 Item I give to my Grand Son Lemuel A. Hall all the tract of land or lots that I now own in the State of Missouri at the death of his father, and if he Should be dead for it to go to his Brother or Sister then living at the death of his Father forever after their Father has had & enjoyed it his life time,
3 Item I Give & bequeath To my Son John C. Hall all that part of my land that lays to the Southward of the following described land Begining at a Marked Iron Oak Standing to the westward of the Road that runs by fronting Isaac C. West and John Taylor house & between two Said houses then with a westerly line till it comes to a little bridge on the road that leads from John Taylors to the other County road then with Said road till it comes to the foot of the road that leads to Stephen R Evans James Dirickson & then As far as my lines Extend all to the Southward of Said lines to him his heirs and assigns forever Also I give to him one bond about three hundred Dollars on promise that he pays to my dear wife one year after My deceas One hundred & fifty Dollars her or her heirs
4 Item I Give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah H Bishop the following described land begining at an old wite Gum on the turkey branch canal near or little to Southward of Perrys Mill dam then a Direct line Southerly to the Pasture ba? then with a direct line Southwesterly to a Small Cedar then a westerly course till it comes to the foot of the Road that leads it & by S.R. Evans & James Dirickson then down & with the road that leads to Blackwater to a bridge or the first Bridge near Halls Lot then west till it Strikes Enoch Evans heirs lines then with my lines nearly with the Canal to the first Mentioned Gum all the land included in the above described lines to her and her lawful begotten heirs of her body Also Give the Services & earning of a Black woman named Rose & her children Services & earnings to my Daughter Sarah H Bishop to her & her lawful begotten heirs of her boddy.
5 Item I give and bequeath to my Son Lemuel A Hall Jun All that part of the land that I bot of holland & that lays to the eastward of the County Road fronting his house which is all that I now own of Said land bot of Holland him his heirs and assigns forever Also one Blackman named Simon & one black Girl named Hagar and also what money he owes me I gave him.
6 Item I Give & bequeath to my Son Philip W Hall one Black man named Samuel also all the money he owed me I gave to him.
7 Item I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas E Hall Hall all the Balance of all the land that I own that lays to the westward of the Road that leads from the head of the Sound to Cedar neck that is not before given away to him his heirs and assigns Forever also I give him one bed & furniture alsoI Give him one black boy named Isaac & one black Girl named Hetty also in cash one hundred Dollars when he comes to the age of twenty one years.
8 Item I give & bequeath To my Son Charles H Hall all that Land that I bot of Stephen Ellis heirs that I now own and all the Land that I now live on as described & lent to my dear wife During her natural life her death I give it to him his heirs and Assigns forever also one bed & furniture one hundred Dollars in cash when he arrives at the age of twenty one years also one black boy named George one black Girl named Ann.
9 Item I hereby Give up my black man Charles his time on the full Understanding that he will go to Libera Africa on or before the Expiration of twelve month after my deceasd but if he does not to Come in to my estate Also Daniel Flory & Tamer I give them up their time to git their own living.
10 Item All the balance of my property it is my Desire that Joseph M. Hall my Son that he Shall havetwo hundred Dollars & the balance of the blance I desire to be equely divided between between Philip W Lemuel A Hall Jr Thos. E. Charles H Hall & y dear wife Sarah Hall equely and if Joseph does never come for that part to be equely dived to Said five last named persons after two years
And now do hereby appoint Lemuel A Hall Jun and Sarah Hall my Dear wife my whole & sole Executor & Executrix of this my last will and Testament Testament in Witness of the foregoing & above will and Testament, I hereby Subscribe my name this first Foregoing & written date hand & Seal. STATE OF DELAWARE SUSSEX COUNTY, SS BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the thirteenth day of Feby in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five before me James Anderson, Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration, in and for the County aforesaid, appeard William S. Hall one of the subscribing witnesses to the within and foregoing instrument of writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Lemuel A Hall Senr late of the County aforesaid, deceased; and being solemnly sworn on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God deposeth and said that he saw the said Lemuel A, Hall the testator sign the said instrument of writing, and heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same as and for his last will and testament; that at the doing thereof he was of a sound and disposing mind and memory and upwards of twenty-one years of age; that this deponent attested and subscribed his name as a witness to the said instrument of writing at the instance, and in the presence of the said Lemuel A. Hall the testator and in the presence of Daniel Godwin the other subscribing witness. Wm L. Hall
