Negro Joseph Manumission from Thomas Marim 1827

Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Marim of Little Creek neck and hundred in the county of Kent and State of Delaware for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving do hereby enfranchise manumit and Set free my negro boy named Joe whom I purchased of the administrator of Joseph Harper deceased for and during the term of his natural life the Said Joe being now about eleven years of age and I do hereby declare the Said Joe to be free from and after the first day of April in the year of our Lord, one thousand Eight hundred and Forty four or when he Shall have arrived at the age of twenty eight years and I do hereby Covenant and agree to defend the Said Joe agreably to the meaning of these presents from the lawful claim of every other person or persons whatsoever claiming or to claim him the Said Joe by from or under me my heirs executors administrators and every of them. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Twenty Eighth day of March in the year of our Lord  one thousand eight hundred and twenty Seven. 1827. Thomas Marim {seal}

State of Delaware Kent County Ss. Be it remembered that on the day of the date of the above and foregoing Manumission personally came Thomas Marim before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for Kent County and acknowledged the Same to be his act and deed and desired that it might be recorded as Such. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the day and year aforesaid. John Wright
