Indenture, Alanson Dickerson from Josiah Lowland 1847

This Indenture made this Twenty Seventh day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty seven. Witnesseth that Lemuel B Shockley a Trustee of the Poor and Jno A Hazard a Justice of the peace both in and for Sussex County have put and bound and by these presents do put and bind Josiah Lofland a poor negro Boy having no parents & resides in Cedar Creek hundred and County afsd now the age of Five years and two months as nearly as Can be ascertind as an apprentice to Alanson Dickerson  of the same hundred and County aforesaid his executors Administrators and assigns for and during and untill the full end and term of Fifteen years and ten months from the day of the date hereof. the said Josiah Lofland to serve the said Alanson Dickerson his Executors Administrators and assigns as an apprentice for the term aforesaid or untill he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years if that shall happen sooner than the expiration of the term aforesaid and no longer and the said Alanson Dickerson for himself his executors, Administrators and assigns do hereby contract Covenant and agree to teach or cause  the said Josiah Lowland to be taught the art, trade or mystery of Husbandry to the best of his Skill knowledge, and ability to well support and Clothe the said Josiah Lowland during the term of his apprenticeship and at the regular expiration of the said term to finish the said Josiah Lowland with two suits of Clothes suitable to his Condition. In witness whereof the said Lemuel B. Shockley and the said John A Hazzard have hereunto in the presence of each other set their hands and seals the day and year herein before first written. This Indenture made this eleventh day of November A.D. 1851. Witness that Alanson Dickerson master of Josiah Lofland a bound apprentice in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars lawful money of the State of Delaware paid byJoseph Morris of Sussex County in the State of Delaware hath in the presence and with the approbation of William Russel and Jas F Burton two Justices of the peace in and for the said County assigned transfered and set over to the said Joseph Morris his executors administrator and assigns the unexpired term of the said Josiah Lofland and the said Joseph Morris for himself his excts administrators  doth hereby covenant and contract to perform the several stipulation in the original Indenture on the part of the master contained.
