Indenture Joseph Young N. From Solomon Truitt N 1839

This Indenture Made this Eighteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine Between John Pinder a Justice of the Peace and George Hall a Trustee of the Poor for Sussex County in the State of Delaware of the one part and Joseph Young Jun of the said county and State of the other part whereas the said John Pinder a Justice of the Peace and George Hall Trustee of the poor as aforesaid having information  of a certain Male Negro Child named Solomon Truitt within the said County who has not parents able to maintain and bring him up to industry and suitable employment. Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Pinder and George Hall aforesaid in pursuance of the powers to them given in the act of Assembly in the Said State of Delaware Have put and bound and by these presents do put and bind the said Solomon Truitt a poor Negro boy who is now the age of six years and nine months as nearly as can be ascertained as an apprentice to Joseph Young Jun Executors administrator and assigns for and during and until the full term and time of Fifteen years and three months from the day of the date hereof the Solomon Truitt Negro to serve the said Joseph Young Jun Negro his executors administrators and assigns as an apprentice for the term aforesaid or until he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years if that shall happen sooner than the expiration of the term aforesaid and no longer. And the said Joseph Young Jun Negro for himself his executors administrators and assigns do hereby contract covenant and agree to teach or cause the said Solomon Truitt neg to be taught the art trade or mystery of Farming to the best of his skill knowledge and ability and to well support and clothe the said Solomon Truitt Negro during the term of his apprenticeship and at the regular expiration of the said term to furnish the said Solomon Truitt negro with two suits of clothes suitable to his condition and the sum of twenty five dollars in cash or that amount in other articles which he may choose in lieu of schooling it being inexpedient to stipulate for education in reading and writing. In Witness whereof the said John Linder and George Hall a Justice of the peace and trustee of the Poor as aforesaid and the Joseph Young Jun Neg hath hereunto in the presence of each other set their hands and seals the day and year herein before first written Jno Pinder J.P. {seal}.
