Know all men by these presents That I Cornelius P Comedy’s of the Town of Dover in the County of Kent and State of Delaware for divers good causes and consideration me here unto moving do hereby enfranchise manumit and set free my negro man John P Numbers commonly called Jack about twenty four years of age and do hereby declare the said negro to be free from and after the day of the date hereof, And I hereby promise to defend the aforesaid Negro John P. Numbers agreeably to the full meaning of these presents from the claim of every other person or persons claiming or to claim him the said John alias Jack negro by from or under me my heirs executors and administrators and every of them.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty Second day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty Seven. C.P. Comegys {seal}
Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us – William Wild John Manlove
State of Delaware Kent County ss. Be it remembered that on the twenty Sixth day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty Seven personally appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in & for Kent County aforesaid Cornelius P. Comegys the party named in the foregoing manumission and he the Said Cornelius P. Comegys did acknowledge the Same to be his act and deed and desired that it might be recorded as Such. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this twenty Sixth day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty Seven. Jno Robertson {seal}
