This Indenture made this twenty ninth day of November in the year of Our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and Ninety three Between Thomas Evans of Cedar Creek hundred and Sussex County yeoman of the One Part and Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf of the County and of the State afsd of the other Part. Witnesseth, that the said Thomas Evans for and in Consideration of the Sum of Seventy Pounds Current Lawful money of the State afsd to him in hand Paid by the afsd Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf before the Sealing and delivery of these Presents the receipt whereof is hereby Acknowledge Hath granted bargained, and Sold, and by these Presents doth grant, bargain, and Sell, unto the said Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf the following Negro Slaves Goods and Chattles, vizt One Negro Man named Thomas, One Negro woman Named Tamer, One Negro Girl named Jesse, One black Horse, One Bed and furniture, and Sacking bottom bedstead, one Desk, Six Rush bottomed Chairs, One Large Oval dining Table, One Dog foot Table, two Square dining Tables of Pine, three Iron Pots, two dutch Ovens, two pair of Andirons to have and to hold the afsd Negroes and Goods and Chattles to the Only purpose use and behoof of the said Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf and their heirs and Assigns forever And the said Thomas Evans for himself his heirs Executors Admins and Assigns doth hereby Covenant to and with the said Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf their heirs and Assigns to Warrant and defend the afsd Negroes, and Goods and Chattles to the Only Purpose use and behoof of them the said Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf their heirs and Assigns forever. Provided Always that if the afsd Thomas Evans Shall well and truly Pay or Cause to be paid unto the said Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf their heirs or assigns the full and Just Sum of Seventy Pounds Current Lawful money as afsd with Lawful Interest from this date & that on or before the first Day of Next November then this Indenture to be void and of None Effect or Else to be and remain in full force. Sussex County Ss Be it Remembered that on the Twenty ninth day of November Seventeen hundred and Ninety three Personally appeared Thomas Evans within named before me the Subscriber Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas for the County of Sussex and Acknowledged the within Deed and the Goods and Chattles within mentioned to be the right and Property of the within Named as Richard Hays John Metcalf Edward Stapleford and John Woolf According to the true intent and meaning of the within Deed in Testimony whereof I hereto Set my hand the day and year above Within.
