Will John Craig Kent County, Delaware 1794

In the name of God Amen. I John Craig of Kent County in the Delaware State farmer being sick and Very Weak in body but of perfect sound disposing mind and memory thanks be to God for it when Calling to mind the Mortality of mankind I do make and publish this my Last Will and testament in the manner and form following Viz. that is to say.

First I commit soul to God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in such a Decent like manner as my Executor or Executrix here after named shall see proper & convenient. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Craig all the port & Beef salted also the Corn in the Crib twenty Bushels of of wheat now in the Barn also all the hay an Corn fodder Also, Negro man Called Joseph Also negro man called peter Also Negro woman Called Sue

Item I give to my Daughter Franky Craig my Negro boy called hamshire and all the Children of the negro boy called hamshire and all the Children of the Negro woman Sue also one Negro girl called hannah.

Item I give to my wife Mary Craig two beds and furniture Also four milk cows and calves Also Her choice of two hose Creature out of the Stock. Also ten head of sheep also one sow and twelve Shots Also all the pots and pot travels hand Irons Shovel and tongs Also all the farming utenials Also two Chests thee same, be her choice Also I give my wife half of the wheat now growing. Item, my will is that my wife have the use of all my lands untill my sons Samuel and John Craig Come to the age of twenty one years or During her widowhood.

Item, my will is that my son Samuel Craig have the Neck place Called the plains Likewise the purchase I maid of Johnson adgoing oit to him his heirs and assigns. Item, my will is that my son John Craig have the plantation in the forest whereon I now Dwell to him his heirs and Assigns.

Item, my will is that my sons Samuel and John Craig, shall pay to my three Daughters Namely Bathsba mary and Franky Craig one hundred and fifty pounds after they have had their ? In possession four years to be Equly Divided Among them.

Item, I give to my Daughter Bathsheba my negro woman Named Nance and one Negro boy named Bill.

Item, I give to my Daughter Mary Craig my negro boys named Jacob and Noah. Item, my will is that my son Samuel Craig have my Negro boy named Adam. Item, I give to my son John Craig my Negro boy named peter.

Item, I give to my son James Craig one french crown.

Item, My will is that my negro boys Charles Glasgow and Jack be hired out untill all my Just debts be paid and then to return to the heirs and be Equally divided among them.

Item, my will is that my Children be sufficiently Schooled and raised without being Charged for it also if any of Any of them die under the age twenty one their portion shall be equally, divided among the Surving heirs.

Item, I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife mary Craig my whole and sole Executor of this my Last will and testament and I do pronounce this to be my last will and testament And I do Renounce and revoke and Disanull all former will or wills made by me heretofore as witness my hand and seal this fourth day of February 1794. Sined, Sealed and Delivered in the presence of us Newell Beauchamp Sarah Downham

State of Delaware Kent County Sst. Personally appeared before me John Laws Regisr. For the Probate of Wills & Granting Letters of Administration, Newell Beauchamp & Sarah Downham the subscribing witnesses to the within instrument of writing and being sworn upon the hold Evangels of Almighty God do say that they saw & heard John Craig sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the same, as and for his last will testament, that at the time of his so doing and saying he was to the best of their knowledge of sound disposing mind memory & understanding & also that they subscribed their names, as witnesses to the same, in his presence and at his request; In Testimony whereof I do hereto set my hand this Octobr. 29th 1795. Be it Remembered that on the twenty ninth day of October Anno domini seventeen hundred and ninety five, the last Will and Testament of John Craig deceased was in due form of Law proved before me Jon Laws (Register for the Probate of Wills and Granting Letters of Administration for Kent County in the Delaware State) by the Oaths of Newell Beauchamp and Sarah Downham the subscribing witnesses to the same, and being approved, Letters Testamentary at the same time were granted unto Mary Craig Executor therein named, who being sworn give bond with William Smith surety in the sum of one thousand pounds lawful money for her Faithful discharge thereof as by the bond filed with the Will appears.
