Know all men by these presents that I Edward Manning Grey late of the Island of St Christophers now living and inhabiting in the Borough of Wilmington in the County of New Castle in the State of Delaware in consideration of long and faithful Services rendered to me by my Negro Man Slave named John Claxton otherwise commonly called Jack and in consideration of and Indenture bearing even date herewith executed by the said John whereby he the said John hath covenanted and bound himself to serve me during the term of my life have for me my Heirs Executors and Administrators manumitted set free and at Liberty the said John and do hereby manumit set him free and at Liberty and do hereby release him of from and to [illegible] Interest claim and demand in or to him or in or to the service which in any manner belongs to me and I do hereby promise and covenant for me my heirs Executors and Administrators to & with the said John that he the said John shall always after the date of these presents be a free man and enjoy his freedom without any claim to his Slavery or any kind of molestation from me my Heirs Executors or Administrators In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety two.
