In the name of God amen, the 22d day of Feb 1793, I Samuel Bevans Turner of Mispilion hund’d in the County of Kent and State of Delaware being Weak & infirm of Body, but of perfect Mind and Memory thanks be to God for his Mercies, and Calling to Mind the Mortality of my body, and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make ordain Constitute and appoint this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. Im I give and Recommend My Soul into the hands of God who gave it me, and as to my body, I leave it to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection. I shall receive the same by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly Goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life, I leave, bequeath, and dispose of the same, after the following Manner & form Viz Item. after the payment of all my Lawful debts I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Jean Hurt Turner the Lower small five Room & the Chamber Back Room in my present dwelling house with the Brick Milk house and part of the out houseing, to my said Wife undisturbed during her natural life, and after her disease to my Son Benjamin Turner, Also to my said Wife a Negro Girl named Hess, during her natural life & after her death to my daughter Polly Turner as also to my said Wife, for her use and support, and for the use and for the use and support of my Son Samuel Turner, the Savanah field, and the Clayhole field, also the back fields next to Billy Hudson’s from the dwelling house, but if my Said Son Samuel Shold Marry before the death of my said Wife, then my ^said wife to have the third part of my dwelling plantation laid off to her convenient to the dwelling house, for her uses and support during her natural life, to my said Wife, my Son Samuel and my daughter Polly all above mentioned I leave to be equally divided, my houshold Furniture, all except one feather Bed, also my out Stock of all kinds, my Wife to enjoy her part peaceably during her natural life, and after her discease to be equally divided between my said Son & daughter Samuel & Polly Turner. Item I give and bequeath to my Son George Turner, seventy acres of land purchased of William Salsberry deceased situate in Caroline County State of Maryland, Joining to Land of Said George Turner’s, William Smith’s & Gove Cox’s to him my Said Son George, his heirs and assigns, also a three quarters of an acre Lott situate in the Town of Denton, on Choptank River Caroline County. also a negro Woman named grace with her increase now in his possession to him my said Son George his heirs and assigns Item I give & Bequeath to my Son Jesse Turner a lott of Ground in the Town of Denton in Caroline County Maryland, the same to Contain one quarter of an acre, part of an acre Lott which I own Joining to Lott of Major Richardson’s to him my Said Son Jesse his heirs & assigns, also Twenty pounds do to him my Said Son Jesse to be paid by my Wife an Son Samuel & my Daughter Polly, out of their parts in equal division among them. Item To my daughter Livicy Turner I give one shilling besides what I have already given her. Item to my Daughter Nicey Fisher I leave one shilling, besides what I have already given her, except a negro Girl named Cloe in her possession, which I leave to my grandaughter Polly Fisher she and her increase to her my said grand daughter her heirs & assigns. Item I give and bequeath to my ^two Sons Benjamin and Samuel Turner all my dwelling (Except as I have already mentioned to my Wife) containing four hundred and thirty five acres, more or less, to be in equal division between them Benjamins part to be most contiguous to the dwelling house and Samuel’s part on the South side of the plantation, exclusive of the dwelling house & other Improvements all Which improvements I leave to my said Son Benjamin, except one Logg’d house which will be on the part Which will belong to My Son Samuel All Which bequeath of my said plantation and appurtenances, I leave to my Said two Sons Benjamin & Samuel Turner, their heirs & Assigns forever, upon their paying to my Grand son Samuel Turner (Son of Levin decd) twenty pounds, after he is at lawful age, Ten pounds from each To my said Son Benjamin I leave one feather bed & furniture and one negro Man Named Joe, and to My said Son Samuel I leave one negro Man nam’d Emanuel and one Quarter of an Acre Lott, in the new Town Denton in Caroline County Maryland to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give & bequeath to my daughter Polly Turner one negro boy named Elijah to her and her heirs & Assigns. Item I give And bequeath to my Son Elias Turner the Wages that a Negro Man named Ishmael may earn by being hired out by either of my Benjamin and Samuel during my Said Son Elias’s natural life or the life of the negro, and after the death of my Son Elias, said negroe I leave to his Son, Levin Turner and to my said ^Grand son Levin Turner I leave one Quarter of an Acre Lott, in the aforesaid new town Denton to him his heirs & assigns. Item I give & bequeath to my daughter Sally Langrel one negro Girl nam’d Rodah, now in Her possession, besides what I have Already given her, Also one Quarter of an acre Lott in the afforesaid New Town Denton To her, her heirs & Assigns forever, also a negro Woman named Rachel, with a child named Flora to be hired out, or sold, which ever my said daughter Sally, or her Husband chooses, by my son Benjamin, or Samuel and the money Given to my said daughter Sally, or her Husband. I leave my old Negro Man named Robbin and his Wife named Flora Free in six Months after my discease, obliging them if such freedom should take place to leave my plantation, and not to Settle nearer my plantation than the distance of ten Miles nor to come to see their children, only twice in a year. I do hereby nominate and appoint my Wife Jane Hurt Turner, and my Son Samuel Turner, to be Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament. And I do hereby Revoke disanul make Void and utterly disallow all former Wills & Testaments whatsoever Ratifying, Confirming & pronouncing this & no other to be & continue to be, and remain as my last Will and testament. Kent County Jehu Turner and Jesse Turner two of the subscribing Witnesses to the Within Instrument of Writing who being sworn on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, do say, that they saw Samuel Bevan Turner sign and seal and heard him publish pronounce and declare the Same as and for his last Will and testament, that at the time of his so doing an Saying he was to the best of their belief of Sound and disposing mind memory and Understanding that at his Instance and request and in his presence they Signed their Names as Witnesses And at the like Instance and request and in his present Saw Robt. Be it Remembered that on the thirty first day of August anno Domini Seventeen hundred and ninety three, The last Will and Testament of Samuel B Turner deceased Was proved and approved in due form and Letters Testamentary at the Same time Granted to Samuel Turner who being Sworn gave bond in five hundred pounds with Jehu Turner for his faithful performance thereof agreeably agreeable to Law as p the bond filed at large may appear. To as I am not able to attend Dover to administer with my son Samuel Turner I do give up to him entirely to Administer by himself tho I do Stand to the will all but adminis[=stration] Jehu Turner, Benjamin Turner Jean Hurst Turner
