Negro Rhoda & Child from Charles Turner 1824

Know all men by these presents that I Charles Turner free Negro of kent county in the State of Delaware from divers Good Causes and Consideration me hereunto moving hath Manumitted emancepated liberated and set free a certain Negro woman Named Rhoda who is my wife & also a Negro child named Jane the daughter of Rhoda before named which woman and child I purchased of Thomas Simpson Conr at the Sale of John Travis’s Goods and chattles on the twenty first day of September inst and who I now Manumate emancipate liberate and Set free from this day forward and forever from me the Said Rhoda and Jane as Slaves or from any & every person claiming or to claim from under through or by me in any wise and I do further declare them the said Rhoda and Jane to be free and no longer to be slaves to me nor no other person or persons from this day forward and forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the Twenty Second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four. State of Delaware Kent County Sst  Be it Remembered that on the day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and twenty four personally appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for the county of Kent Charles Turner free Negro and did Acknowledge the above Manumission of his wife Rhoda and child Jane to be his act and deed in due form of law In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand the day and year above.
