Frederica, May 17th, 1822 these are to inform Whome it may Concern that I, Benjamin Dill Bought James Dill negro of John McBeth & or Thomas Lowber and that he was appraised in the Estate of Thomas Lober at $120 Dollars and that Thomas Lowber Bought the said James of William Brown at 120 to serve untill he was 28 years of age and when they applyed to me to purchase him I told them that I would not purchase him to serve longer untill 25 years of age and his father Jacob Lowber Told me If I would buy him untill he was 25 years of age that he would pay me $20 Dollars for the other 3 years which he did pay me James was Born August 17th 1799 and I sold him to Jehu & Thos Clark them to serve untill he is 25 years of age that he belongs to his father Jacob Lowber N.b. John McBeth Told me that we would when he got to Dover Manumit James in the presents of Doctor Wm. Whitly. Benjamin Dill
State of Delaware Kent County Sst. on the 17th Day of July 1822 personally appeared Benjamin Dill before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County and being Duly sworn declared and said that the within is a true statement of the sale and purchase of the within Named James Dill negro to the best of his knowledg sworn and acknowledged before me.
