Know all men by these presents that we Francis A. Boyer and Thomas Latchem administrators of Caleb Boyer Decd. Both of Kent County State of Delaware being convinced of the intentions of the Said Caleb Boyer before his death to manumate and set free a certain negro man named John Lewis we do therefore hereby manumate enfranchise and absolutely set free the above maned negro man John Lewis after he has served the full term of four years from the sixteenth day of January eighteen hundred and Sixteen – which term or time will end the Sixteenth day January eighteen hundred and twenty after the expiration of Sid time we do set free and grant to the said John Lewis all the privalages of a free Black man and we the aforesaid Francis A Boyer and Thomas Latchem do hereby warrant and defend the liberty and freedom of the aforesaid John Lewis black man from the lawful claims of us our heirs executors Administrators and every other person or persons claiming by from or under us In Testimony Whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this fifteenth day of January eighteen hundred and sixteen.
