Know all men by these presents that I Walter Douglass of Kent County & State of Delaware for divers good causes & Considerations me hereunto moving hath & by these presents doth manumit emancipate and set free and at full liberty a negro or Mulatto Girl named Maria about Eighteen years of age, a slave of me the said Walter Douglass, and a wife of Daniel Stubbs negro & I do hereby declare that from and after the twentieth day of October one thousand eight hundred & Eighteen that the Said Negro Maria Shall be deemed & considered as a free woman & Shall be capable of enjoying all the rights & privaleges that free negros or Mulattos may or can enjoy, by the Laws of Delaware In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the twenty Fifth day Novembr Eighteen hundred & fifteen. Kent County Sst. Be it Remembered that on this twenty fifth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and fifteen the above named Walter Douglass appeared before me James Schee one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Delaware for Kent County and did acknowled the above manumission as his act and deed for the use and purposes therein mentioned In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the day and year above written.
