This Indenture made this Sixth day of May on the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty Six, by & between Samuel Copper, negro, of Camden Kent County & State of Delaware & Rachel his wife of the one part & John G. Conwell Mercht. of the same place of the other part, Witnesseth that the Said Samuel Copper & Rachel his wife, for & in consideration of the sum of Fifty Dollars, lawful money of the Sate aforesaid, to them in hand paid by the said John G. Conwell at & before the unsealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge & thereof & forever discharge, the said John G. John G. Conwell his heirs, executors & administrators by these presents, have grated & bargained, sold, alienated, enfeoffed, released, conveyed & confirmed & by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release, convey & confirm not the said John G Conwell & to his heirs & assigns the following described land & premises namely, a small strip off the corner of a certain lot of ground situated in Jerrel Town, west of Camden & bounded on the North by the Public Road leading from Camden aforesaid to Kent County alms house, and on the west by the lane or road runing from the Camden & alms house road to the Camden & Willow Grove road & on the East or South East by a line bearing North nineteen & a half degrees East being the original dividing line between lands now belonging to the said Samuel Copper, negro, who heired the Same from his father & mother Aron & Rebecca Copper, & lands formerly belonging to one Jonathan Hunn; and the small strip thus bounded & situated is now by this Indenture of bargain & sale conveyed to John G. Conwell, containing about ten Square perches of land More or less, Together with all an Singular other the houses, out houses, buildings, barns, Stables, ways, woods, waters, water courses, rights, liberties, privileges, Hereditaments & appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversions and remainders, yearly & other rents, issues and profits thereof; And also all the estate, right, title, in= terest, property, claim and demand whatsoever of the the Said Samuel Copper negro and Rachiel his wife, in law or equity or otherwise however, of, in, to, or out of the same. To Have & to Hold the Said messuage or tenements and piece of about Ten square perches of land, hereditaments & premises hereby granted or mentioned or intended so to be, with the appurtenances unto the said John G. Corwell his heirs & assigns, to the only proper use & behoof of him the Said John G. Conwell his heirs & assigns forever. Anderson Notary Public, for the State of Delaware Samuel Copper, negro, and Rachiel his wife parties to this Indenture, known to me personally to be such and severally acknowledged this Indenture to be their deed; And the Said Rachiel being at the same time privately examined by me apart from her husband acknowledged that she executed the Said Indenture willingly, without compulsion or threats or fear of her husbands displeasure.
