Know all men by these presents That I Charles Hollis of Kent County in the State of Delaware Free negro from motives of affection and benevolence and for other good causes have manumitted enfranchised and set free from Slavery my Negro female Slave named Judith who is now my wife and about the age of thirty years and also my negro female slave named Nancy who is now about the age of eleven years and my daughter by the aforesaid Judith and also my negro female slave named Easter who is now about the age of eight years and also my daughter by the aforesaid Judith which said Judith and her said Children the aforesaid Nancy and Easter I purchased from Joshua Lister on the thirtieth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve the said Judith and her said Children the aforesaid Nancy and Easther to be absolutely free from slavery as aforesaid from and immeditely after the date of these presents. And I do hereby give grant and release unto the said Judith and the said Nancy and the said Easther respectively all my right title and claim of [them] and to their persons labour and devices respectively as slaves: reserving nevertheless to my self all the right title and claim to the person, labor and services of the said Judith which I have as her husband and also all the right title and claim to the person, labor and services of the said Nancy and Easther respectively which I have as their father. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Seventeen. Charles Hollis his mark {seal}

State of Delaware Kent County Ss. Be it Remembered that on the third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Seventeen Charles Hollis party to the foregoing deed of Manumission personally appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State aforesaid in and for the County aforesaid and did acknowledge that the Said Manumission is his act and deed.
