Indenture John W. Macklin to Moses America 1856

This Indenture made this twenty seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six. Witnesseth that Rebecca Macklin in Dover hundred mother of John Wesley Macklin hath in the presence and with the approbation of Thos. Stevenson a Justice of the Peace for Kent County in the State of Delaware, put and bound and by these presents doth put and bind her son John Wesley Macklin a colored Boy who is now of the age of Ten years as a servant to Moses America, his executors administrators and assigns for and during the term of Seven years from the date hereof, the said John Wesley Macklin to serve the said Moses America his executors administrators and assigns, as a servant for the term aforesaid and no longer, and the said Moses America for himself his executors and administrators doth hereby covenant and contract to teach or cause the said John Wesley Macklin to be taught the business of a servant to the best of his Skill, Knowledge and Ability to well support and clothe the said John Wesley Macklin during the said term and at the regular expiration of his servitude to furnish him with two suits clothes suitable to his condition. In witness whereof the said Rebecca Macklin and Moses America have hereunto set their hands and seals respectively the day and year aforesaid. Rebecca Macklin her mark {seal} Moses America {seal}
