Manumission Negro Samuel Porter from Levin Rickards & David Walton Admr. 1815

Know all men by these presents that I Levin Rickards Executor of Nathaniel Rickards late of the County of Kent & State of Delaware deceased Have & by these presents do agree and acknowledge that a Certain Negro Man named Samuel Porter late the property of the Said deceased Shall be free & at his full & perfect liberty at the expiration of three years from the day of the date hereof on the following terms & conditions to wit; if the Said Samuel Shall and do on demand pay to me or my legal representatives the Sum of Ten Dollars and if the said Samuel shall and do for the Said three years successively pay unto me or my legal representatives the further sum of thirty-five Dollars annually during the said three years the first payment to become due on the 21 day of February 1816 & do on, on the 21 day of Feby in each year until the three payments are completed. I further agree that I will have his clothing made but am to be at no further expense with him for board nor Clothing unless the Rheumatic affection with which he is affected Should attack him so violiently as to render him unable to work then in Such case I agree to stay the time or  times of payment until he can have a reasonable Chance of making payments after he shall be released so as to be able to work And the Said Samuel is at liberty to pass & preps and to hire & work with any person that may see proper to imploy  him during the said term and at the expiration thereof on his compliance as afsd. I hold my Self bound to give Samuel a full discharge. Witness my hand & Seal this 21 February A.D, 1815. Levin Rickards {seal}

Know all men by these presents that I David Walton Executor of Levin Rickards (deceased) on the twenty first day of February one thousand Eight hundred & fifteen do hereby Manumit infranchise and Set free the within named Samuel Porter from the day of the date hereby who has by payment made to the Deceast of Ten Dollars as per Receipt and the remaining part after the deduction of his loathing has been fully Satisfied & paid to me agreeable to the within agreement as witness my hand & Seal the twenty third day of June 1818. State of Delaware Kent County Before me Elias Shockley one of the the Justices Assigned to keep the peace in and for the County of Kent aforsd on the twenty third day of June one thousand Eight hundred & Eighteen Personally appeared David Walton in his proper person And did acknowledge and declare the Annexed Manumission of Samuel Porter Negro mentioned in the aforesd. & foregoing Manumission to be his act and Deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal Elias Shockley
