Whereas I Outten Davis of St Jones Neck and hundred in the County of Kent in the State of Delaware hath this day to wit this twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty Six purchased of a Certain Samuel M Wharton of St Jones neck and hundred in Kent County afsd. A Certain Negro Man named Isaac aged thirty years or there abouts for the Sum of Fifty five dolls. to the Said Samuel M Wharton in hand paid to have and to Hold the Said Negro man Isaac to me the Said Outten Davis my heirs executors administrators or assigns as by a bill of Sale duly executed under the hand and seal of the Said Samuel M Wharton on the day afsd. on refference to the same being had may at large appear.
Now Know all men by these presents that I Said Outten Davis for divers good causes and Considerations do manumit liberate and set free and at full Liberty the Said Negro man Isaac from and immedeately after Serving me the Said Outten Davis two years from the date of these presents. Provided and upon this express condition and none other that the said Negro man Isaac shall well and faithfully and in an Honest obedient manner well and truly Serve me in all lawful business that he Shall be put unto by my orders or command or by the order and command of me my heirs executors administrators or assigns during the Term afsd. (it being two years from this day) And furthermore it is the true intent and meaning of me the Said Outten Davis my heirs Executors administrators or assigns that if the Said Negro man Isaac shall well and faithfully Serve me my heirs Executors administrators or assigns for and during the full End & Term of two years to commence this day that at the Expiration of said Term he the Said Negro Man Isaac Shall be free and forever liberated from me my heirs executors administrators and assigns and Shall enjoy the Same rights and privileges as others of his Color are entitled to by the Laws of this state or any of the united states of America. Kent County Sst. Be it Remembered that on this twenty first day of January A.D. 1826. Personally appeared Outten Davis within named before me Jacob Furbee Esquire one of the Justices assigned to keep the peace for Kent County afsd. and acknowledged the within instrument of writing as his act and deed according to the purport & effect true intent and meaning of the same and desired the Same to be recorded as Such.
