Know all men by these presents that I James Johnson of Mispillion hundred in the County of Kent and State of Delaware ^Surveyor for certain Causes and Considerations me hereunto moving do hereby Manumit Enfranchise & set free my negroe Girl Cynthia, aged about Eleven years at and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and twenty seven, and further I the said James Johnson do hereby warrant and forever defend the liberty and freedom of the aforesaid negroe Girl Cynthia from and after the aforesaid first day of January Eighteen hundred & twenty Seven afsd. from the Lawfull claim of all and every person or persons whomsoever Claiming or hereafter to claim said Cynthia by from or under me my Heirs Executors Administrators or either of them In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Sixteenth day of October Eighteen hundred and Sixteen 1816. Before me Watson Pepper one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County on the Sixteenth day of October Eighteen hundred and sixteen appeared James Johnson of the County of Kent in the State aforesaid and acknowledged the within Instrument of Writing or Manumission to be his Voluntary Act and Deed according to the true intent and meaning of the Same In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hands and seal the day afsd.
