Negro Ben Manumission from Samuel and Allen Talbott 1817

Know all men by these presents that whereas we Samuel & Allen Talbott one of Kent & the other of Sussex County in the State of Delaware did on the twenty fifth day of May eighteen hundred & fifteen among other things purchased of Benjamin Potter of the Village of Milford, County of Kent aforesd. a certain Negro man named Ben aged about twenty four years which Negro man agreeable to the said purchase and express agreement between said Potter and us is to be free at the expiration of six yers from the time of the said purchase. Now be it remembered that in complyance with the said agreement and for other good Causes and Consideration us there unto moving We the said Saml & Allen Talbott do hereby manumit enfranchise and absolutely set free the said Negro Man Ben to be free and at his full and perfect Liberty on the twenty fifth day of August eighteen hundred and twenty one at which time he will be about thirty years old And we do hereby warrant and defend the liberty and freedom of the said Negro from our selves & each of us our & each of our heirs executors & administrators & every of them and against all & every other person & persons lawfully Claiming or to Claim him by from or under us or either of us. State of Delaware Kent County Be it remembered that Samuel Talbott personally appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in & for the said County and acknowledged the within Manumission of Negro Ben to be the act & deed of Samuel & Allen Talbott agreeable to the true intent & meaning thereof in due form of law. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 27 June 1817. 1817. J. Millechops
