Negro Alexander Pope Manumission from Sarah Pope and Others 1817

To all whome it may Concern; We Sarah Pope late of the City of Augusta in the state of Georgia, but now of the village of Smyrna in the County of Kent & State of Delaware and Lydia Simpson and Margaret Simpson of the County of Kent and State of Delaware aforesaid Do hereby Manumit and Set free and at full liberty our Negro Man named Alexander Pope and do declare him free from us our heirs or assigns forever and at full liberty to pass and repass in the state o Delaware or Elsewhere and entitled to all the privaledges and advantages to which free people of Color are entitled under the Laws and Constitution of the united States In Testimony of which we have here unto set our hands and Seals at Smyrna in the County of Kent and State of Delaware the fourteenth day of July in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and seventeen. State of Delaware Kent County set. Be it remembered that on this fourteenth day of July in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Seventeen Sarah Pope Lydia Simpson and Margaret Simpson named in the above Manumission appeared before me Robert Patterson one of the Justices of the peace for Kent County in the State Delaware and Severally acknowledged the above manumission to be their act and Deed Respectfully for the use and purpose therein mentioned In Testimony of which I have hereunto set my hand and Seal at Smyrna the day and year first above written Robert Patterson
