Know all men by these presents that I John Purden of the town of Milford in Kent County & State of Delaware for divers good Causes & Considerations me thereunto moving do hereby manumit enfranchise and absolutely set free a certain negro boy belonging to me Peter previously the property of Thomas Green of whom I purchased the said boy to be free an at his full liberty from & after the fourteenth day of February A.D. Eighteen hundred & twenty Eight at which time the said Peter will be about twenty five years old And I do hereby warrant & defend the liberty and freedom of the Said Negro Boy Peter from myself my heirs Executors & administrators and from all and all manner of person & persons whomesoever lawfully Claiming or to claim him by from or under me after the Said fourteenth day of Feby Eighteen hundred & Twenty Eight In witness whereof I hereunto Set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of July Eighteen hundred & Seventeen 1817. State of Delaware Kent County Ss. Personally appeared before me James Millechop one of the Justices of the peace of the Said County the Revd. John Purden and acknowledged the above and foregoing manumission to be his act & deed agreeable to the true Intent and meaning thereof in due form of Law. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal this 16th July 1817. J. Millechop
