This Indenture of Bargain & sale made this twenty fourth day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and eighty Four Between Caesar Rodney Esqr. Of the County of Kent in the Delaware State of the one part and James McClement of the same place of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Caesar Rodney for and in Consideration of the sum of twenty two pounds Ten Shillings in hand paid or secured to be paid, Hath Bargained and sold unto the said James McClement one Negro Woman named Joece and one Negro Child son of the Joice named Charles about one year old, to serve the said James McClement his heirs Executors administrators or assigns that is to say the said Joice is to serve four years from the Thirteenth day of April last past fully to be complete and Ended, and the said Charles to serve till he is Twenty five years of age and no longer and the said Joice at the Expiration of the said Term or time of four years, and the said Charles after he arrives to the age of twenty five years, is hereby Manumitted Liberated and for Ever set free and and Clear from me my heirs Executors administrators and assigns – and free & Clear from the said James McClement his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever = and if the said Joice should have any more Children within the Term of four years afsd such Children shall all be free when they arive to the age of twenty one years – and all the Children and decendants of the said Negros after the Expiration of the respective Terms and times afsd Shall be fully and entirely free forever In Witness Whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their Hands and seals the day and year first above Written.
