Indenture Susan Lightfoot N. To Charles Griffith

This Indenture made this first day of November in the year of our Lord, Eighteen hundred and thirty eight between Susan Lightfoot fem sole, eldest daughter of George Lightfoot free negro late of Dover Kent County, in the State of Delaware of the one part and Charles Griffith of Dover in the County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth That the said Susan Lightfoot for and in consideration of ^the sum of fifteen dollars current money of Delaware, to her in hand paid by the said Charles Griffith at and before the sealing and deliver of these presents the receipt whereof the said Susan Lightfoot doth hereby acknowledge, and from the same and every part and parcel thereof doth hereby forever exonerate acquit and discharge the said Charles Griffith his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, hath given granted bargained, sold, aliened ^released enfeoffed, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth give, grant, bargin, sell alien, ^release enfeoff, convey and confirm unto the said Charles Griffith his heirs and assigns forever; all her right, tittle and interest, the same being, one undivided equal fourth part (subject to the right of dower of Elizabeth Lightfoot, widow of said George Lightfoot decd.) of and in all that lot piece or parcel of ground with the improvements and appurtenances described as follows in an Indenture of bargain and sale, dated the eleventh day of April Anno Domini 1807, from Joseph Harper and Hester, his wife to the said George Lightfoot and recorded in the Office for recording of deeds at Dover for Kent County aforesaid in Book N, Vol 3, folio 56&57 to wit Beginning at the east corner of a Lot or piece of ground lately sold by the said Joseph Harper to James Stewart on the North Street aforesaid thence down the said Street and binding therewith thirty five feet to a corner of a lot or piece of ground since sold by the said Joseph Harper to Ralph Corse free negro thence, with the line of said Ralph Corse lot which is a paralel line with said Stewarts lot to the line of a lot lately purchased by Jonathan McNatt from Avis White widow and devisee of John White deceased thence with said McNatts lot about thirty five feet to the corner of James Stewarts lot aforesaid thence with said Stewarts line to the place of beginning containing about nine square perches of land be the same more or less, situated on the north side of North Street of the town of Dover aforesaid, and now adjoining lands of Samuel Vanburlow, Henry Eubanks and Thomas Harris and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents issues and profits there of, and all and singular the right, title, interest and estate either in law or equity, of the said Susan Lightfoot therein or thereto; together with all and singular the buildings, inclosures, improvements, ways, waters, water courses, rights, members, priviledges, benefits, advantages, easements, emoluments and appurtenances thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the same hereby granted lands and premises, and all the estate, right, title, interest, trust, property, claim and demand whatsoever, at law and equity, of her the said Susan Lightfoot of in and to the same, to have and to hold all and singular the hearby granted lands, and premises and every part and pieces thereof, with their and every of their appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said Charles Griffith his heirs and assigns, to the only proper use of the said Charles Griffith his heirs and assigns forever, to his and their whole and sole benefit, use and behoof, and to and for no other use, intent or purpose whatever, and behoof, and to and for no other use, intent or purpose whatever, and the said Susan Lightfoot doth for herself his heirs, executors ^and administrators covenant grant promise and agree to and with the same Charles Griffith his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, and each and every of them by these presents, that she the said Susan Lightfoot her heirs, executors and administrators, and each and every of them the aforesaid lands and premises (hereby granted or intended to be granted) and every part thereof, unto the same Charles Griffith his heirs and assigns, and each and every of them against the claim or claims of the same Susan Lightfoot her heirs and assigns and all and every person or persons whatever claiming under them, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents, And Further that the same Susan Lightfoot  her heirs, executors and administrators and each and every of them shall and will at all times hereafter, at the reasonable request and at the property cost and charges of the same Susan Lightfoot her heirs and assigns, do make, exonerate and acknowedge all and every such further act or acts, conveyance or conveyances, Assurance or assurances in the law, which warranty as aforesaid, for the further and better assuring and confirming, the hereby granted, or intended to be granted lands and premises and every part there of, under the same Charles Griffith his heirs and assigns forever as the same Charles Griffith his heirs or assigns or either of them, shall devise and require. Note. The name of Thomas Stevenson, wherever it occurs was erased and that of Charles Griffith interlined before the signing

Received on this first day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen and thirty Eight from Charles Griffith the Sum of fifteen dollars being the consideration money for the lands and premises, within granted and expressed to be paid in the foregoing Indenture, witness my hand.

Note _ George Lightfoot died intestate and left, to survive him one child named Susan the above named grantor, by his first wife, and a  widow named Elizabeth his last wife, who is living and three Children by her, namely Hester Ann, Sally Ann and George Lightfoot as his only heirs at law.

State of Delaware Kent County Ss: Be it remembered that on the second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight before the subscriber associate Justice of the State of Delaware, Susan Lightfoot named in this Indenture, personally appeared and acknowledged said Indenture to be her act and deed, and desired that it might be recorded.
