Articles of agreement made and concluded this twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety by and Between Richard Manwaring Junior of the One part and John Wiltbank of the Town of Dover Carpenter of the other part. Where as the aforesaid Richard Manwaring hath a negro man named Solomon which he possesses and holds at this time as a Slave and being willing to put the said negro man Solomon upon some footing whereby he may obtain his freedom, doth hereby covenant and agree with the said John Wiltbank that he shall have the Said negro man Solomon at the rate of twenty shillings p month until the Sum of twenty four pounds Shall be paid agreeably to that rate if so long the Said negro man shall live and if he Should die before the Said Sum of twenty four pounds is raised in manner as aforesaid then and in that case, the aforesaid Richard Manwaring is only to receive in proportion to the time he shall live and if the said negro man should live ‘till the Expiration of the Said Term the Said Richard Manwaring for himself his Heirs Executors and Administrators doth forever quit Claim to the Said Negro man Solomon whereby he may enjoy ever there after the priviledges of a free man, and the Said John Wiltbank doth bind him self his heirs Executors and Admrs to pay or cause to be paid unto the aforesaid Richard Manwaring the Sum of twenty shillings p Month in manner aforsd. if So long the Said negro man shall live and also ^to find and provide for Said negro man Solomon clothing diet Washing & Lodging during the Said term.
