Know all men by these presents that I Esther Morgan of the County of Kent and State of Delaware, and James Caldwell of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina Do hereby Bargain and Sell unto Matthew Shippy the Husband of Ruth Negroes of the County of Kent & State of Delaware aforesaid Five acres of Land being apart of our part of Land willed or Bequeathed unto us by our deceased Mother Mary Caldwell and in the South and Corner of our said Mother’s Tract of Land Deeded to her by Philip Kerney adjoining a Lot of Ten acres willed or Bequeathed by our deceased Brother John Caldwell unto the above said Negro Ruth the wife of aforesaid Matthew Shippy ^To them their Heirs and assigns forever for the Consideration of five shillings for which we acknowledge ourselves fully satisfied for the above five Acres of Land as Witness our Hands and Seals this ninth day of the twelfth month Seventeen Hundred and ninety four. 1794 Esther Morgan {seal} James Caldwell {seal}

Kent County Be it Remembered that Jonathan Wallace came into the Court of Common Pleas held at Dover for said County on the ninth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven Hundred and ninety four and then and there made Oath that he saw Esther Morgan and James Caldwell Sign Seal and Deliver the above Instrument of writing for the uses and purposes therein mentioned, and that he saw William Morgan Subscribe his name thereto as a witness, and that he himself Subscribed his own name to the same as one other Witness In Testimony whereof I have set my Hand and caused the Public Seal of said Court to be Affixed.
