Manumission William White and Ann White from Thomas Lewis 1802

Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Lewis of Murderkill hundred in Kent County and State of Delaware do think it wrong and oppressive to hold Negroes in object Slavery, do hereby Manumate and Set free to all Intents and purposes from the date hereof one Negro man Named William White and an Negro Woman Named Ann White from me my heirs Executors and administrators and from all and Every other person or persons whatsoever Claiming or hereafter to Claim under through or by me my heirs Executors and administrators the freedom of the said William White and Ann White will warrant and forever Defend In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the Eighth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and two 1802. State of Delaware Kent County } Ss. I do hereby Certify that on the Eighth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and two personally Came Thomas Lewis party to the within manumission before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the Said County and did acknowledge the within manumission before me the said Justice and did Sign Seal and Deliver the Same as his act and Deed Given under my hand and Seal the day and year above written Benj Brady
