Manumission Sarah Chandler, Jacob Chandler from Stewart Redman 1800

To all People before whom these presents may come Greeting. Know ye. That I Stewart Redman of Duck Creek Hundred, Kent County in the State of Delaware, having weighed in the scale of Justice the conditions of Slavery, am sencibly convinced, That it is unwarrantable, as well by the laws of Religion as morality and that as God originally distributed equally to the human race, the unalienable right to the enjoyment of Personal liberty, so it behoves each man to restore to his fellow Creatures, that invaluable blessing of which he by unjust & impolitic laws is possessed. In Consideration whereof, I have and do by these presents emancipate; set free and forever discharge from Slavery My negro Woman (named) Sarah Chandler (whom I purchased of Thomas Jamison her freedom to commence on the twelfth day of March Eighteen hundred and three, & also my negro man (named) Jacob Chandler whom I purchased of Robert Jamison I have and do by these presents, Emancipate, set free, & forever discharge from Slavery his Freedom to commence on the fifteenth day of December, which shall be in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & five.
