Know all men by these presents, That I Nehemiah Tilton of the Borough of Wilmington, in the County of New Castle, and State of Delaware Esquire, do hereby liberate manumit set free, and discharge my Negro Slave named Sandy a tanner, and do hereby remese and release all services, servitude, Right Power, and authority which I had have or could or am or was entitled to have by the Laws of the said State of Delaware, and him do hereby declared to be ^a free Man, Note that nothing contained in the above manumission is to opperate so as to invalidate a sale of the said Sandy “to John Battell on 20th April 1791 for the Term of ten years Witness my Hand and Seal this Fourth day of July in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety nine and in the Twenty third Year of the Independence of the said State. Be it Remembered That on the fourth day of July Anno Domini Seventeen hundred, and Ninety Nine, Personally appeared Before me John Lowber, one of the Justices of the peace of said County & State of Delaware, the above named Nehemiah Tilton Esquire party to the above deed of Manumission, and Acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and desired the same to be recorded as such.
