Manumission Jerry Slaught from William Denny 1804

Know all those whom it may concern that I William Denny of Duck Creek hundred in the County of Kent and State of Delaware for divers Good causes me thereunto moving – and believing that all men by Nature are born free Do this first day of the third month in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and four, manumit my Negro man Jerry Slaught who hath been by me, for the two years last past, permitted to act for himself free from my controul – In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this day and year aforesaid. Subscribed in the presence of Wm Clarke, James Harper

State of Delaware Kent County } Sst. on the first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and four – personally appeared William Denny Esqr. before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County, and acknowledged the above and foregoing, manumission of Jerry Slaught Negro is his act & Deed, and that the Same may be recorded as Such. Witness my hand and Seal the day and year afsd. Jacob Stout
