Dr James Sykes from George Reed Esqr
Know all men by these presents that I George Read of New Castle on Delaware do for my self and my heirs Executors administrators and assignes do hereby covenant grant and agree to and with Doctor James Sykes of Dover Kent County his heirs executors and administrators that I will liberate and set free from slavery a Negro man need Worrell Passaway on his arriving at and completing the twenty eight year of his age which said Worrell the said Doctor James Sykes hath the day of the date of these presents bargained sold and conveyed to me the said George Read my heirs executors administrators and assignes for the term of his life in consideration of two Hundred & fifty Dollars In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the 4th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen. Signed Sealed & Delivered in presence of John Fisher
Be it remembered that at the time of Executing the Bill of Sale to Mr Read for Worrell Passaway for the term of eight years there were present Dr Sykes who executed said instrument Stephen Sykes Thomas Clayton William Sykes and John Fisher, August 4th 1814
N.B. this covenant was executed on 4th August 1814 tho not so dated within J Fisher
