Manumission Eliza from William Hughlett 1801

Know all men by these presents that I William Hughlett of Kent County in the State of Delaware for and in Consideration of the sum of Fifty pounds secured to be paid to me by John Kilpartrick of Kent County and State of Delaware I do hereby manumite, mansipate, Liberate and set free a certain Slave negro woman named Eliza, aged about Twenty four Years, the proper Slave of me the said William Hughlett provided Nevertheless that I the said William Hughlett do hereby Reserve to John Kilpar trick, his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns, the service and Labour of the said Negro woman Eliza, for and During the Terme of Ten Years; from the date hereof And I do hereby Declare that after her service of Ten years as aforesaid, she is to all Intents and purposes a free woman. In Testimony Whereof I hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth Day of January one Thousand Eight Hundred And One. William Hughlett {seal}

Kent County State of Delaware } Be it remembered that William Hughlett personally appeared before me Nathaniel Smithers one of the Justices of the peace for said County and did Sign Seal and Acknowledge the within written manumission ^as his act and deed for the use intents and purposes therein mentioned In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand ^and set the 9th day of January Anno Domini 1801.
