Manumission Nicholas Ridgely to Negro Charlotte & James
I Nicholas Ridgely of Dover, Kent County Esquire do hereby manumit and set free my female Mulatto slave named Charlotte, whom I purchased of John Ringgold Esqr now deceased in his life time on the eighth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five, which said charlotte was then aged about twenty two years, and is now about thirty one years Old and is no way decrepit, and is now and hath been halthy and is not rendered incapable of getting her living – she is wife of a certain free colored man, named James Hynson, formerly the slave of said John Ringgold. I also hereby manumit and set free James the son of the said Charlotte and of her said Husband James Hynson which said James the sone hereby manumitted was born in my Family, the twenty fourth day of August Eighteen hundred and twelve. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and fourteen. Nicholas Ridgely {seal}

Kent County SS Be it remembered that on the twelfth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen personally appeared before me James Schee one of the Justices of the peace in and for the County Of Kent Nicholas Ridgely Party to the above Manumission and he the said Nicholas Ridgely acknowledged that the said Manumission is his act and Deed and desired that it may be Recorded as such. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Dover the day And year aforesaid. James Schee {seal}
