Manumission Negro Sarah Owens From Joseph Chairs

Know all men by these presents, That I Joseph Chairs of Murderkill hundred in Kent County and State of Delaware administrator of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits, which were of Thomas Chairs late of said County and place deceased, for and in consideration of the sum of fifty Dollars, to me in hand paid, by Isaac Owens, free negro, before the signing of this present writing, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, Hath, and by these presents doth manumit and set free, and at full liberty a certain negro woman named Sarah Owens, wife of the said Isaac Owens, who was lately the property of the said Thomas Chairs, and at his decease left a slave for life, And further I hereby do discharge and set at full liberty the said Sarah Owens from any further service to me, my heirs, Executors or administrators, or any person or persons holding or claim under the said Thomas Chairs deceased. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the nineteenth day of August In the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. Joseph Chairs {seal}

State of Delaware Kent County} I hereby Certify, that on the twenty sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine personally came Joseph Chairs before Matthew Coxe one of the Justices of the Peace for said county and acknowledged The within and foregoing manumission, of Sarah Owens to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned, Witness my hand and Seal the day and year above written.
