Manumission Negroes Ruth & Benjamin from George Truitt
Know all men by these presents that George Truitt of Mispillion Hundred Kent county and State of Delaware, Farmer, for divers good causes and considerations do by these presents, manumit, liberate and set free the following negros, to wit, a certain negro women named Ruth, aged twenty two years last march, & a certain negro boy named Benjamin, aged nineteen years next July, and I do hereby further agree that, the said negro Women Ruth and the said Negro boy Benjamin, shall after they arrive to the ages of twenty eight years be entitled to and enjoy all the rights, previledges & immunities, which free negros or mulattos may or can have or enjoy by the laws of this state. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hands and affixed my seal this sixteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. 1809. George Truitt Mispn. {seal}
Sealed and delivered in presence of John Lowber, Waitman Sipple,
State of Delaware Kent County Ss. } I do certify that George Truitt appeared before me John Lowber one of the Justices of the Peace for said county and acknowledged the within manumition, to be his act and deed for the use and purpose therein mentioned. Given under my hand and seal at Dover the sixteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and nine. 1809. John Lowber.
